ABSTRACT WORK
This abstract section contains two distinct series as well as some ‘one-off’ pieces that did not fit into a larger body of work. Many of the following oil paintings were inspired by the calming and generative forms of nature, such as rocks, plants, and fields. The simple forms and airy palette have a soothing effect. The ‘word paintings’ were created for a functional purpose--to hang in my house to serve as personal reminders for my awareness practice. These have served to assist in remembering Buddhist insights gleaned from both teachers, sangha, and direct experience. My goal was to transform the text and negative space into an aesthetic experience that was not only decorative in its own right, but also further assisting in the practice of presence.
